The benefits of a standing desk

At my job, I stand all day.

I retrofitted my cubicle desk so I could stand, instead.

At my home office, I stand when I work.

I stand behind a Jaswig Nomad Standing Desk and sway my hips atop the complementary Tic Toc balance board.

Why stand at work?

People notice

They see a head in an unusually high position, look twice, make eye contact, and I greet them. Conversation often follows.

Collaboration is effortless

Since I’m already standing, it’s no trouble to get up and walk over to talk to someone. Vice versa: when I invite someone to my desk, they don’t have to kick me out of my seat.

It’s a fun movement to be part of

More people have started standing. After seeing my setup, they feel comfortable sharing theirs and accepting ideas for better ones.

Prove them all wrong

A few co-workers have bet that I would miss the comfy chair. But with the right setup (including properly positioned accessories and foot comfort), standing has become far more comfy.

Why stand at home?

Some have said I’m a masochist. I’m not sure whether to believe them.
